Hays Arts Council 35 years strong
The Hays Arts Council, located at 112
E. 11th, brings art to Hays through several different exhibitions
throughout the year.
Serving area residents of all ages, the
council features programs from summer youth classes to year-round
series of exhibits of emerging and established artists.
Begun in 1965, the council started its
first artists-in-residence in 1970 and is widely known for the
ongoing Smoky Hill Art Exhibition.
There also is a five-state photography
exhibition, professional family theater, mystery dinner evenings
and adult classes.
For youth, there is an extensive summer
program in cooperation with other organizations, and a Famous
Figures contest in which fifth-graders portray their favorite
historical characters.
A popular event each year is the Nutcracker
Ballet, a collaboration between local dancers and members of
professional dance companies.
Brenda Meder is executive director of
the HAC.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
