Opportunities for Kids

Purpose: a volunteer organization that facilitates collaboration
among Ellis County agencies, groups and other resources, both
public and private, who provide needed supervision and activities
for school-age children out of school hours.
The group meets from noon to 1 p.m. the first Tuesday of every
month at the Smoky Hill Prevention Center, 1106 E. 27th.
Overcomer's Outreach
A nondenominational support group for people and their families
who have alcohol, drug or food addictions. They meet at 7:30
p.m. Thursday nights at the North Oak Community Church Center,

Shooting Stars Singles Square
Dance Club

Purpose: To promote square dancing among singles and couples.
The group conducts square dances at 8 p.m. on the first Wednesday
of each month at the Roosevelt Elementary School, 2000 MacArthur.
Lessons are conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, October to May,
the Reed Center activity room, 317 W. 13th.
Sibling Class
A free class for future brothers and sisters offered from 3 to
4 p.m. every other Sunday of each month by the Hays Medical Center
Birthing Center nursing staff. Designed to prepare soon-to-be
brothers and sisters for their new arrival, the classes feature
games and activities. All classes are in the HMC conference center.
Children are also given a special tour to familiarize them with
the Birthing Center. Parents must accompany children and preregistration

Sunflower State Crankers

Purpose: Primarily, the preservation of historical Fords from
1908 to 1927. Other interests include mutual help for restoration
and maintenance, information, owner education, recreation and
fellowship. The group was founded in 1987 and is an official
chapter of the Model T Ford Club of America.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

The local Post was formed shortly after World War II. Purpose:
to serve those who served America. The organization offers special
programs to assist veterans and their families. Other programs
include Americanism and Loyalty Day, buddy Poppy, hospital, legislative,
rehabilitation, safety, VFW National Home, Voice of democracy,
community service, career-aid search and youth activities. The
group meets at 8 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each
month.

Members include wives, widows, mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers,
daughters, granddaughters, foster and stepdaughters of people
who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign
Wars of the United States. Members must be citizens of the United
States and not less than 16 years old. Women eligible for membership
in the Veterans of Foreign wars shall be eligible for membership
in the Ladies Auxiliary.

on Concerns of the Disabled

Purpose: To enhance the lives and activities of individuals with
disabilities in western Kansas. General meetings begin at 5:30
p.m. on the third Thursday of every month in the Rayburn Room
of the LINK Building, 2401 E. 13th.
Monthly newsletter is Wheels of Progress. Membership: $5 a year;
$10 per family; $20 for business or organization.
